The Swedish Association of Educational Publishers, Svenska
Läromedel, is a trade association for publishers of educational
materials. Our thirteen publishers
provide printed and digital textbooks and other materials for
secondary and upper secondary schools, universities and other
forms of lifelong learning.
The mission of the association is to assist publishers in
educational policies by providing high quality tools for teachers
There are some 30 educational publishers in Sweden. The market
for educational materials is worth SEK 1.1 billion annually (USD
153 million). Our publishers provide about 80 percent of the
materials used in schools.
On average, pupils aged 6-15 receive SEK 500 (70 USD) worth of
materials annually, this representing 1 percent of tuition costs.
has decreased by 22 percent over the past ten years, which is one
explanation for the deteriorating results of Swedish pupils in
international assessments such as PISA.
Svenska Läromedel engages in dialogue with the ministry of
education, local school boards and privat schools and other
principal actors. Explaining the value of high quality
educational materials to the public is an association policy. We
further the business of our publishers by providing market
statistics, representation in the Swedish reproduction rights
organization (RRO) Bonus Presskopia and fighting illegal
